Can we be honest? The diamond industry wants you to be confused and overwhelmed when getting a diamond. The jargon, the four different measuring tools with four completely different measuring methods and terms, the page long, incredibly detailed report, the various grading labs- we won’t lie, it’s hard to wrap your head around. Even our new employees when hired have to take a couple of months to learn around every nuance and detail there is!

So, why admit that, as part of the diamond jewelry industry, that there’s a problem? Well, we don’t like the way that the diamond industry approaches diamond buying. To be frank, it’s f*cked. So, instead of going with the flow, keep reading to find out the five ways we are changing it up.

No Confusing Jargon

When you look at a diamond grading report, even the summary includes at least seven different grading results. We won’t lie that it’s interesting information. But do you have to know all of it to make a final decision? No! When diamond buying is just a stop on your engagement ring journey, we don’t want you to get tied up on a diamond’s girdle measurement when we can worry about that for you.

One phrase we do want you to remember is eye-clean. It means what it sounds like: the diamond is free from any visible marks when looked at with the naked eye. Eye clean diamonds can have clarity grades from the highest possible to the 4th lowest (out of eleven possible grades). When picking a diamond, everything else can be hidden. But if it’s not eye-clean, you’ll know.

Like we said, diamond buying is created to be confusing. With so many different variables to consider, weight out and focus on, it can feel like staring at modern art and not knowing what the piece is trying to represent. So, we’ve made our message easy to find. We go into specifics in other blogs, but to summarize, we think a diamond’s quality can’t be found in measuring how high or low it is on the various different scales. The diamonds we buy would probably earn C or D grades if they were in high school. But we dare you to come in and tell us they don’t look good.

No Pressure

Everyone is on their own timelines. We’ll find the best fit for you at your time. Don’t worry about coming in too soon or waiting a year to make your final decision. We want the only pressure you feel to come from your future fiancée. For their sake, try not to sit on the ring for 6 months, ok?
